Myth number 2: We children are indoctrinated by our parents
Of course we are! Everyone is indoctrinated by the education they receive. Our parents believe it is their duty to raise their children to be godly men and women. So we receive a decidedly religious education on purpose. One key in an education though, is to learn to think logically, so that one can analyze what they are hearing and reading. I do not think this is being done well in the public school system and that we are doing a better job of it in our home school, but that is a judgment call.
Myth number 3: Our parents keep us at home to slave for them
This is a stupid fallacy. Of course, we are all expected to contribute to the well being of the family and assist in the care taking of our home. Chores, however, do not equal slavery. Nor is our load in any way painful or debilitating. Doing household work not only trains us in the necessary skills we need in order to live life on our own, but also teaches us character skills, such are responsibility and perseverance.

You have no idea about what goes on in a public school...you've never been in one. Your thoughts are therefore irrelevant and unsubstantiated. This is only what your mother and father have told you.
I've never been shot before but that doesn't mean I can't assume getting shot would be painful.
Just because a person has not directly expieriened a given situation doesn't mean they are disqualified from having an opinion on it.
I presume you've never been homeschooled and yet you seem to have pretty strong views about something you've never experienced.
Thank you Rabenstrange!
You cannot comment on "what is being done" in the public school....when you have never been in a public school. becaues you have NOTHING to base your opinion on.
Getting shot, is pretty clearly a painful thing, for obvious reasons. That's a rather silly comparison.
This simply shows that the parents have indoctrinated this girl with the idea that NOTHING outside the home or the church is good for them.
I find that a little strange.
I think Rabenstrange already said that "Just because a person has not directly experienced a given situation doesn't mean they are disqualified from having an opinion on it." And I agree with him. Based on that you cannot just discount my knowledge of public schools without more insight on my own research on the subject. There are many other ways to learn about an issue than to personally experience it. And my parents have never told me that EVERYTHING outside of our home is bad for me. Your comment makes little sense and has nothing logical or factual about it. If you cannot come up with a decent argument, please go away.
oh, sorry, you're not familiar with those tests are you? because you don't intend on furthering your education beyond the cooking and cleaning your parents have already taught you.
the Logic...as you would find in an SAT test or an LSAT test or a GRE or GMAT is that "experience" leads to personal knowledge. lack of experience leads to secondary opinions.
you have no personal experience. your opinions are therefore based only on what other people have said to you.
that is logic.
My opinions of public school are based on books I have read and on my encounters with public school children, as well as what my parents say. What is your view of our public school system? Stop attacking me for listening to my parents. I wish more teenagers would. I have already told you that I am not blindly accepting of all that they tell me, but I do trust them so I do believe a great deal of what they say. And you are being rude- I clearly said that I intend to continue my education outside of the home, but not through college. You seem to believe that anyone who breaks outside of the box is in the wrong, and you are basically making me repeat myself. And you never say WHY you believe what you do, or WHERE you got these ideas, or WHAT your OWN experiences are. Stop insulting me and being so argumentive or I WILL delete your comments. I am tired of these useless repetitve discussions.
I believe what I do based on many years spent in public schools and state universities...and many years living in major cities surrounding by various races and religions. In addition to higher education in law and political science which I am continuing to pursue now, I have relatives who have been homeschooled, and relatives who have served time in prison, and relatives who have fought in the Iraq war, and relatives who are homosexual. Most of my family are Catholics, though I am related to some Mormans, and some Methodists. My cousin married a Jewish man and converted to Judaism. Most of your opinions are closed-minded and offensive. But you seem like an intelligent and curious person, so I just wonder why you don't explore things outside of your home and your family and your church. At least try to read things other than Christian writings, if only to expose yourself to other ways of life.
Society is not a bubble, and life is hard no matter where you live, but if you don't accept other people have their own sincere beliefs that are no more right or wrong than yours, then you'll be disappointed by people a lot in your life.
You say that I don’t accept that other people have their own sincere beliefs that are no more right or wrong than my own. Well, the right or wrong is part of the opinion and idea issue. Anyone with an opinion is going to believe that since they themselves are right, the other person is wrong. You can’t just accept all ideas as fine. And I think my own ideas are quite sincere and you have made no effort to accept them, so you are not following your own advice. In fact, you said earlier that my opinions are offensive to you, so you are contradicting your own idea. Obviously, pretty much everyone has their own very sincere beliefs. So I would say that your accusation in this area is wrong.
You have quite a varied group of influencers- how do you decide what is true and what isn’t? How would you classify “exposure” and non-Christian writings? I believe that I explained in an earlier discussion that I am exposed to other cultures and ways of life, and you still don’t believe me because I am not changing my mind. This seems to be the main issue with you:
Anon: You are isolated and sheltered!!!!
Em: You don’t know a thing about me so how would you know and by the way I am not isolated and sheltered!
Anon: But you are not changing your views to match mine so you must be!!!!!
Em: What are your views anyway? And I am not!
Anon: You must be!!!!!
Em: Sigh.
Anon: Isolated! Sheltered!!
This will probably anger you: I listened to my Dad say something this evening- he thinks you are only doing this to annoy me.
I don't care if you agree with my beliefs or not. I would expect you wouldn't. that's fine. but when you attack things like Harry Potter and public schools but you've never been exposed to them, i wonder why you don't seek out some personal exposure or experience to those.
i'm doing it to make you think. and realize that not everything in the world is as simple as your parents have made it for you. that's all. and maybe make you ask questions, you otherwise might not. and maybe realize that no one's beliefs and opinions are always "right" or "Certain" -- i know mine aren't.
I wonder, what degree of “exposure” would satisfy you? Obviously, I am not going to public school any time soon. So the only way for me to learn about it is to read about it and observe it’s product, the American teen. Perhaps I mentioned that I’ve done that? How much more would you want? I think it’s obvious that our public schools have a problem. If you watch the local or national news, its obvious. And we need to be protected from some things. Exposure and experience are not the only ways to learn. And about one’s beliefs being never right or certain- they can’t all be questionable. There has to be a right and wrong. For example, cold-blooded murder is always wrong. Am I making you think?
