Did they have those steel boxes to put your food in? According to the Park Rangers in Yosemite a bear will open up your car like a tuna can if it smells food in side.
our first camp had steel containers, our next one didn't. We had to carry all our food to the van. Even our toothpaste! The Rangers put up that sign because a bear did get into a man's cooler the day we got there.
